The Vulture Monitoring Project

Most vulture species are endangered. The threats are multiple : pollution, electric lines, poaching, reduced wild areas and available carcasses as food source...
To ensure vultures' survival, we have to estimate their current numbers. This step will help in determining the best conservation actions required to help the vultures' populations in the wild.
However, counting vultures is not an easy task ! This is the reason why this project was started.
First, a vulture's restaurant was set up, to encourage the birds to come regularly. In the future, this will also help provide them with food as natural carcasses are becoming less available in the wild. Then, cameras will be placed at the restaurant to record any activity. The recordings will be used to monitor the wild vultures' populations remotely, without human presence on site that could deter the birds.
